Would love to do a styrofoam background; but, I just do not have the time to go through the laborious Drylock process.
Anyone have any experience with some type of clear sealant over styrofoam & then spraying with Krylon?
Wonder if anyone has any ideas if something similar would work?

Re: Krylon on styrofoam background?
The time it takes to paint on Drylok is minimal, especially if you use a large painter's brush. -You would be looking at the same drying time as any other sealant. I can't imagine that it would take more than an hour to cover your background, and that's about the same time it would take to ensure adequate coverage with any other kind of sealant.

Thanks for responding. I was speaking of the time to soak the background after drylock...water changes, etc that I have read of?

Sounds like you're talking about a quickrete or concrete over styro BG. Drylok doesn't need to soak or have water changes. If anything at all just a rinse off prior to placing in aquarium.

Re: Krylon on styrofoam background?
Hello there you can use krylon on a styrofoam background however the spray paint will eat the styrofoam background. You have to cover it in a coat of drylock paint with a brush first. Its really quick just paint the whole background and let it dry and then use the spray paint to add your depth and shading to the background. Its really easy and I think it will turn out well just make sure that first you have painted with a brush.

Thanks so much for the info, all!!! I did not realize it was the Quickcrete that was requiring the soaks/water changes.
Will post pics as I progress.
