Hi all,

I'm collecting a new FX6 to add to my existing tank to replace a smaller filter I currently use. Once installed it will run alongside my EHEIM Pro 3.

I wondering how best to go about getting the the filter up to speed?

Is there a chance of a nitrate spike if I just connect it up straight away? any tips on avoiding any problems?

thanks :)

You should be just fine adding it to the existing tank, assuming the Eheim filter is mature. You could also add any media from the smaller filter you are replacing to the FX6 if it fits but shouldn't be necessary.

Adding a new filter will not cause a nitrate spike!

I replaced 2 SunSun 302 canisters with one FX4 a few months ago. I siphoned out a bucket of tank water and rinsed the new sponges in that (probably unnecessary) and took some ceramic rings out of one of the SunSuns. No ammonia or nitrite spike whatsoever.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.
