Tankmates for a pair of kribensis

Postby fishy_foo » Fri Jul 20, 2012 5:19 pm

Hi,
I have a planted 29G with 6 danios with a pair of kribs.
I was wondering if I can keep 3 honey gouramis, 8 neon tetras and 6 harlequin rasboras with them. Will the fish mix will work ?

Thanks,
Ami

Do your kribs spawn? If they spawn, do you want to save the fry? They will take up the whole 29g if they have fry, they will nip your gouramis like there's no tomorrow. The danios and tetras (and maybe rasboras) will try to eat the fry and will probably overwhelm the kribs with their numbers. In a 29, for successful spawning of kribs, I'd suggest only 3-4 dither fish. If you're not worried about saving the fry you might be okay, but the kribs will damage the other fish when they go to eat them. You could just watch for spawning behavior and remove the cave with the eggs prior to spawning, in which case the aggression probably won't reach the level I've been referring to.

I understand where you are coming from. A 29 is such a tall tank for a just pair of fish. But, I think even the danios are a risk, when the kribs start breeding. I'd leave it alone, and rehome the danios if necessary.
Too many fish to choose from, too few tanks!

Thanks folks, I'll let things stay as they are.
My kribs haven't spawned yet although they have laid eggs 5 times. I thought snails were eating the eggs and removed them. Then I realized the parents are eating the eggs too ! So I'm just gonna wait until they mature. They're a beautiful pair that live in their little cave :)
