Can someone give me the scientific names

Postby Jayse » Fri Jul 20, 2012 12:24 am

Jusst looking for the scientific names of these two fish so I can do some research on them in the library. Friend is getting ready to trade fish to LFS and asked if I'd like any of them for free. Unfortunately he's not the type to get all into the names of the fish, etc.

He did tell me one is called a Red Top, which I found this video on youtube, and this is the exact same fish (not the yellow lab) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-963fzva3A

One of the others he calls them "blues" (sigh.... might as well call it just fish). He later told me they're blue Acei (not yellow tail Acei). Thanks for any help identifying so I can research them.

Ok, I'll go with that fish for the red top, although all the pics I've seen for Metriaclima Greshakei on this site show a more orange to reddish fin versus the yellowish seen in the video and what my friend is going to give me.

Does anybody have a clue about what fish the "blue" Acei may be??

Pretty tough to do without a picture to reference.

But the first fish is definitely Metriaclima greshakei.

Okay, so now my friend is saying that the fish in the video is NOT the fish he is calling a red top (sorry guys, he does have one of those as well). HE did however send me a pic... here it is, it's the whitish one with barring. Thanks again guys.

Looks like it is also a Metriaclima, M. zebra would be my generic guess as they range quite a bit in color and are readily available.

Thanks.... unfortunately I couldn't find anything in the species profile on it. I did find the page loosely discussing Metriaclima emmiltos which wasn't as informative as I'd hoped the species profile would have been.

Treat it just like the Metriaclima greshakei. Aggressive and boisterous, not really a fish you want a single male of for a harmonious tank.
