|
|
Hi,
Finally I got two Green terrors. I waited too long...
They are 6cm / 2,4 inches.
Hope didn´t mess with the gender...
Female above
Male
Female
What do you think of them, am I mistaken about the gender?
The female is fatter than the male and kicks everyone around
Best regards

Females are usually smaller and a little rounder in shape for GT. Um but other then that it's next to impossible to tell unless you vent them or see spawning behavor.
South American cichlid btw |

Cute fish
As for genders... It is exceptionally difficult to sex most fish until they are sexually mature... including Green Terrors... I'm not going to say I think you are wrong about the genders you suggested, but I would say they are much to young to make a solid evaluation...
The "rounded fins = female; pointed fins = male" is true to a degree with Green Terrors... But in premature fish adult fin shape has yet to establish itself... _________________ The happier you make your fish the happier they will make you

I think you are very likely correct on your assessment of your GTs being a male and female. Males have a thicker rim of gold or orange on their dorsal and tail fin ---- quite unlikely that your suposed male is anything but a male. It's over all coloration is more typical of a male as well.
Often a little more difficult to be certain of females, as they could be males that are as of yet less developed. A thinner rim, white to orange in color is typical of a female ---- such as the rim exhibited by your suposed female. Also the spot on the gill plate tends to be more prominant on females --- (sometimes fading away entirely on very mature males). Females also tend to have much more prominant white streaks (on both sides of the dark spot on the body), though that is not apparent from your pictures. Still, the overall coloration seems to indicate that your suposed female is most likely a female. |
