I did a DIY styrofoam background on a 220g tank, and adhered it to the aquarium with GE Black Silicone II. I let it cure for 5 days, and then filled the tank with water (added sufficient dechlorinator) and put a few feeder fish in to test it. The test failed
My questions, in no particular order:
- has anyone had success using this silicone, and should I assume it is just toxic to the fish?
- is there any fish-safe sealant that I can apply to the entire covering of the background, so that whatever toxicity that is present in the silicone can be "covered up"?
- is there any test kit available that will allow me to test for whatever is toxic from the silicone?
I apparently cannot post a link until I've had one message posted, so I will post a link to a photo of the tube in a subsequent entry.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated- thanks.
