Mag Drive 3/4 NTP -> 1 1/2 [Share Ideas]
Hi Everyone,
So I just recently bought a pump Supreme Danner Mag Drive 9.5 and within the instructions the manufacturers recommendation is for the pipe to have an inner diameter of 1 1/2 inch, however, the fitting is only 3/4 inch.
The only tought I had was to step up using barbed connectors with soft tubing in-between, anyone else have a solution?

Does your local hardware store not have threaded couplings? They should...just take the pump to the hardware store and they usually have all the stuff needed.

Check my 100G in wall build thread in this forum, there's a picture of a 3/4 FPT to 1 1/2 slip adapter, I seem to remember that I got lucky and was able to step up with a single fitting. Loewes, IIRC.
You should be able to find white PVC fittings to do exactly what you need.

People do *but* they are galvanized metals, potable but with with salt could be looking to erode - prefer plastic.
I will keep looking but I have a few stores now and people where not sure how to resolve this issue.
To be honest I thought this would be quite easy to find.

You are probably going to need to get two adapters to step up in size from 3/4 to 1 1/2. I would go to local homedepot or lowes and start mixing and matching combinations. You should find anything and everything in PVC.tim_s wrote:People do *but* they are galvanized metals, potable but with with salt could be looking to erode - prefer plastic.

You will probably need to go from 3/4 to 1 then from 1 to 1 1/2. I am almost 100% positive they will have what you want.
Also...are you wanting to use tubing or pvc?

I suggest PVC, simply because it's easier to cut and not as brittle. The fittings you find, the white ones, are going to be PVC, I don't know how to join that with ABS, but it will need to be glued.
I am pretty certain I was able to find a single fitting that went directly from 3/4 FPT to 1 1/2 slip, and it had to come from either HDepot or Loewes. Worst case, as Razorbacfan said, two fittings, they have boxes and boxes, if you know where you want to start and where you need to end up, you can get there.

Yep....just takes a bunch of mixing and matching sometimes to find the right combination but they have basically every fitting you can think of. Just takes a bit of time sometimes....I don't know what all the names are of the fittings but I know them by sight and the more you fiddle with them the better you will get.CITADELGRAD87 wrote:I suggest PVC, simply because it's easier to cut and not as brittle. flex pvc sells a 3/4 female to a 1.5inch slip adapter. thats white sch40.
if you want sch80 (mainly for the color) you can get http://www.pvcfittingsdirect.com/_e/Red ... ule_80.htm
this will allow you to thread onto the mag drive, and then slip a 1.5inch coupler, or t which i did to allow a valve to adjust overall pump flow..
the t i used is a 1.5x1.5x3/4 so my fancy gate valve doesnt have to be loaded up with bushings. then im running some flexpvc to a t at the top of the stand to another t.. bushing down to 3/4 with a spigot/slip bushing
home depot.. lowes. and most places will leave you compromising on in the end. just ordered sch80 today cause i like the look compared to white pvc.. and yeah thats about it.. good reason to pay 200% more for pvc

I have read mixed reviews on ABS...some say it releases harmful toxins in the water because it is in constant contact with water...I don't know. Some say it is just fine. Again...I don't know. Just thought I would throw that out there so you can do some research to see if you want to use it or not.

i heard the same.. but arnt most bulkheads made outa abs? when it comes to piping abs is pointless.. there are 10000 pvc options.. and i hate how abs gets when you use pvc cement on it. i used the primer once on it.. it got so hot

I do not want to spread rumors and I maybe prematurely talking here but I read an article that ABS is more potable than PVC, however, ABS does not meet with the standards regarding pressured water within an enclosed system and thus is mainly used for drainage and is the most common water delivery method outside of copper pipping.

On a side note I found a electrical and plumbing store actually not too far from my house, I am hoping they will have a larger selection of PVC items as so far the major stores within my area has been a let down.
This is not to say that PVC is impossible, just perhaps not as straight forward, everyone has reducers this is not the problem just everyone has them in metal based / ABS materials.
The only piece I am missing is just the reducers to fit a 1 1/2" from a 3/4" outside of that any of the major chains can take me the rest of the way.

Yep...plumbing supply is where I would go also. I would take your pump and show the guy behind the counter and tell him what you are trying to do. I was lucky enough to have a very large electrical/plumbing supply close to my house when I was having issues. I found that when hardware stores don't have what I need that plumbing supply stores either have it or can order it. I think it is better option than internet ordering because you can actually see what you are buying.tim_s wrote:I do not want to spread rumors and I maybe prematurely talking here but I read an article that ABS is more potable than PVC, however, ABS does not meet with the standards regarding pressured water within an enclosed system and thus is mainly used for drainage and is the most common water delivery method outside of copper pipping.
