Yellow Lab Question

Postby PBrods » Fri Jun 08, 2012 12:28 pm

My yellow lab has a very pronounced black strip on the lower front 2 fins. I'll notice that sometimes, it's not there at all but the next day, they are very black again. What would cause this?

Maybe you saw them appear during aggression? What ratio is your tank of yellow labs?

That's a good thing...the black fins. Colors come and go depending on the mood and confidence (dominance) of the fish.

My yellow lab was beautiful when he was ruling the tank and I thought I had killed him when I moved him to a cool off tank and he lost all his black coloration, and when I put him back in the main tank a month later he was colored up within minutes (he also regained his position...so much for cooling off).

My yellow labs so the same thing. They are nice looking when they show the black.

Is it just male fish or do the female have black on those lower fins also?

The males usually are a little larger and have bolder black on them.

It will be easy to tell once the females start carrying.

It's easier to vent them once they have laid eggs before. But you can def tell a male from and unsure. oo vs Oo
