The Aqueon Aquarium Water Changer was developed to make routine water changes and vacuuming gravel easy and efficient for any level aquarist. Complete water flow control prevents spillage, facilitates more complete, thorough cleaning and eliminates the need for lifting heavy buckets of water.
Water Changer Includes:
11" gravel tube with built-in water flow control valve
Water flow sink attachment with adjustable valve and spash-reducing guard
I got tired of carrying buckets of water to and from my sink, so I decided to invest in the Aqueon water changer. Totally glad I did! It makes water change day a breeze. My only complaint is that it wastes a lot of water. You hook one end up to the faucet, put the end in the tank and turn on the water. This creates a siphon and the water drains from the tank, along with the water from the faucet, into the sink. This wastes too much water for me. So what I do is instead of attaching one end to the faucet, I just put the tubing out the back door, suck on it to create a siphon, and the water drains outside onto the ground (an waters my grass).
I purchased the model with the 50 foot hose about 2 years ago and use it every 2 weeks. It works very well, except for one initial problem. The threaded coupling that connects the flow control valve to a faucet breaks easily - in fact, the second time I used it. Aqueon sent me a replacement flow control (the entire section at the faucet end), even though the coupling is removable from the rest of the flow control. However, the replacement coupling also broke after two or three uses. This wasn't due to any unusual force applied perpendicular to the coupling, as I was careful not to do that. It just looks to me like the plastic coupling is not thick enough at that point.
I tried gluing the broken couplings back together with Loctite Plastic Bonder (which does indeed work, as it is notoriously difficult to bond plastic to plastic). It worked, and the coupling has held up OK since.
Aside from this problem, I would rate the product quality as excellent. If you purchase one, you might want to buy a tube of Loctite Plastic Bonder to keep on hand. It's a 2-part product that you can probably find at most home improvement stores. And, be careful not to exert any undue lateral force on the coupling.
We got this to replace the 3' siphon hose and this is absolutely AMAZING! SOOOOOO much easier! Hook it up to your hose with the attachment and it works like an eductor to create the siphon and then ya just let it go! You can also close the valve and fill it back up. My next attempt is to see if I can hook the API tap water filter up to it t make the water changes easier. GREAT PRICE ON AMAZON! And we found it Prime so had it in 2 days, holler!
I went looking for a replacement pump piece for my Python changer because it leaked terribly. All I found was the Aqueon, so went ahead and picked one up. I was very impressed with a much better designed unit. Unlike the Python, which I see now is a design nightmare, this is one piece, so no where to leak. I also love the on/off handle over the bell thing that you have to lift and twist to close. I used to see anything but the Python as a cheap imitation. Glad I tried the Aqueon out. Never looking back.
